The sewing & beading project has been going strong for more than three years. First the ladies met at Peniel church three times a week; then they moved to Brookdale Secondary School where they now have their own permanent classroom, including show room. The sewing & beading ladies
make beautiful bags and cushion covers, they
knit baby clothes and cuddly toys and make the
most stunning beaded jewelery. They also make
curtains and other things to order.
They are
and
Friday; come and have a look at their
beautiful
products. They make great
gifts!
The proceeds are split between the project
and the ladies.
Although our focus is on children and youth, we don’t forget the adults. Adults who were unable to finish their schooling have been empowered by our ABET English literacy programme and women without a job are taught sewing and beading. We also support and mentor several businesses in Amaoti, among them a block plant, food café, car wash and laundry. Creating jobs and income generation is an important key to a successful future for Amaoti.
Our vision at Lungisani Indlela is to partner / assist local businesses to grow and develop, with the L.I. share of the profits going towards the running costs of our projects. Businesses such as catering, tent hiring, clothing and woodwork factories, commercial vegetable gardening, markets/shops etc could be developed to give employment to many and they, too, will be required to contribute a percentage of their profits.
Our purpose is to empower the community to reach this place of being able to fully support and manage Lungisani Indlela.
